9 reasons for wintercamping in Croatia

Last December we were proud and happy to host Helene Schmidt, German journalist from famous and popular portal bild.de. She published amazing report about wintercamping in Croatia from her own perspective. With  her campervan she spent 2 months in Croatia. From mid November to mid January. She visited whole coastline from Istria to Dubrovnik, the same as hinterland from NP Plitvice and Zagreb to Medimurje region.

Here are her reasons for visiting Croatia in the wintertime.

Let's go!

1. Health aspect

As the first reason for visiting Croatia, she cites the health aspect, with the island of Lošinj as an ideal destination for all who have respiratory problems.

2. Winter Climate

Another reason is the winter climate, which is very mild, but also as one that can surprise you with famous NE bura wind. Croatians love bura because it brings good and dry weather. And also helps to dry our famous - smoked hams :) Tip for buying excellent smoked ham in our neighbourhood is Prsutana Puntica, Vinjerac.

3. Low crowd season in campsites

The third reason is the absence of crowds in the campsites and lower prices.

4. Low crowd season in general

The fourth reason is based on the previous one and refers to the absence of crowds on ferries, restaurants, museums and all other attractions.

5. Hospitality

The fifth and very important reason is the hospitality of the hosts. Thanks to lower occupancy host have more time to get familiar with their guests. The same as we did, taking Helene to Zadar Christmas Market and tasting the local food together.

6. Outdoor activities

The sixth reason refers to the sports offer and infrastructure in the form of bicycle, hiking and mountaineering trails. In our neighbourhood particulary we have some very interesting trekking routs with amazing sea scenary. The same as posibility for mountaineering in Velebit mountains or taking the breathtaking root on island Pag which is called Life on Mars. It is famous because scenary looks like on Mars. No greenery arround, only stones.

 7. Croatian food

In seventh place is always an important motive for travel – gastronomy. As far as we are concerned, we tooked Helene to our favourite Butler restaurant in Zadar. But there also also so many other good ones to try. Ask us, and we will point you to the best places.

8. High-quality wellness offer

Lot's of campsites offer that possibility too. We are not one of them but can reccommend you a good ones.

9. Skiing

In ninth place is skiing as one of the unexplored motives for the arrival of even more Germans in Croatia. Famous skiing areas are Platak, Sljeme and Bjelolasica.

“This is an excellent and very valuable report on the Croatian camping segment because it was published on the Bild.de portal, one of the most read portals in Germany, which boasts over 30 million unique users. In addition to nine motives and reasons for a winter visit to Croatia, the journalist also cites various examples of how to spend winter holidays in Croatian destinations, and lists 20 attractive camps from all over Croatia that are open to guests in winter,” said Draghicchio, adding that this is a trip organized by the CNTB in cooperation with partners, ie the Croatian Camping Association and with the great support of the system of tourist boards in the country.
